Apple Courts Intel & Samsung for Chip Foundry as Samsung Hits $1 Trillion

Release date:2026-05-06 Number of clicks:156

Apple is actively diversifying its chip supply chain. The company has held exploratory talks with Intel and Samsung Electronics to manufacture core processors in the US. Apple executives have visited Samsung’s Texas fab and held preliminary discussions with Intel about foundry services. No firm orders yet.

The move aims to break TSMC’s exclusive foundry grip. Tight advanced capacity at TSMC (driven by AI demand) has already led Apple to warn of supply constraints hurting iPhone sales. Still, Apple has concerns over Intel and Samsung’s technical reliability and scale.

On the same day, Samsung Electronics market cap surpassed $1 trillion – the second Asian company after TSMC to reach that milestone. Its stock has more than tripled in a year on AI chip demand, lifting Korea’s KOSPI above 7,000. Samsung, SK Hynix, and TSMC form the core of the global AI chip supply chain, solidifying Asia’s dominance.
